Corian

Drawing from pattern history and the techniques of inlay and marquetry, the project demonstrates pattern-making potential as a route toward sustainability. In collaboration with Dow-DuPont.

  • This short-term investigation was undertaken in collaboration with Dow-DuPont. Drawing from pattern history and the woodworking techniques of inlay and marquetry the project demonstrated pattern-making potential in solid surface materials. For Dow-DuPont, the aim of the exploration was to consider avenues for expressing and revitalizing their brand in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the product. With fifty years of product sales, there is a vast quantity of the material installed, deinstalled, overstocked, or stocked new and unsold. The exploration accords with core principles in Circular Economy thinking by suggesting a route for keeping widely distributed products and materials such as Corian functional, desirable, and in circulation.
