Brian Anderson is a Chicago-based designer whose practice examines production as a material, cultural, and ecological system rather than a neutral technical process. Through Studio Brian Anderson, he uses design to investigate how objects are shaped by infrastructures of extraction, fabrication, labor, and place. His work moves between craft traditions and emerging technologies, treating both as forms of knowledge that can be reconfigured in response to contemporary environmental and social challenges. The studio develops projects that ask how design might produce not only new objects, but new understandings of sustainability, locality, and the conditions of making itself.

Anderson holds degrees in Chemistry with a Specialization in Earth Science and Education from UC San Diego and Harvard Graduate School of Education respectively. He holds MFA degrees from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in Writing and Designed Objects. Anderson’s research and practice have been supported by awards, grants, and residencies from the European Ceramic Work Center, the Netherland-America Foundation, the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission and National Endowment for the Arts, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program/Japan-United States Educational Commission. Associate Professor Anderson (tenured) teaches in the Bachelor and Master of Design programs in Industrial Design at the University of Illinois Chicago where he was past Director of Graduate Studies and inaugural administrator of the school’s Preliminary Year Program.

アンダーソンは、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校で化学（地球科学を専門）を、またハーバード大学教育大学院で教育学を修めています。さらに、シカゴ美術館附属美術大学大学院にて、ライティングおよびデザインド・オブジェクトの分野でそれぞれ最終学位であるMFAを取得しています。彼の研究と実践は、ヨーロピアン・セラミック・ワークセンター、オランダ・アメリカ財団、日米友好基金／全米芸術基金、イリノイ大学シカゴ校、ならびにフルブライト米国スカラー・プログラム／日米教育委員会などによる賞、助成、レジデンシーの支援を受けてきました。終身在職権を有する准教授として、アンダーソンはイリノイ大学シカゴ校のインダストリアルデザインにおける学士課程および修士課程で教鞭を執っています。同校では、大学院研究主任を務めたほか、予備課程プログラムの初代運営責任者も務めました。
