Quatro

Quatro is a cork composite modular seating system that together configures as a table. In the spirit of circularity, this focused exploration willfully embraces a biologically regenerated material, affords longer product circulation through modular design and configurability, and presents a harmonious marriage of digital design and fabrication with an ancient material while nodding subtly to the concept.

Cork has been utilized for thousands of years, and continues to be applied in its natural form and as a bound conglomerate. Its closed cellular structure, natural fire retardancy, and antimicrobial properties have ensured its roles in a range of cultures throughout human history. Cork oaks are grown to maturity from which point their bark is harvested – without harming the tree – every 9-12 years. The bark regrows after harvesting and the trees often live for centuries.
